  1. I like the alternative techniques this post provides to retain heat in the household. My old roommate used to keep the apartment thermostat at 79-80 degrees Fahrenheit ALL the time…our heating bills skyrocketed, and my parents said they were paying for my small apartment more than they pay for our entire house. With my new roommates, we came to a solid compromise with the thermostat (usually no higher than 70 degrees), and we make sure to keep blinds closed during the winter, as well as place saran wrap and duct tape over the window cracks to conserve heat and save on the bill.
