  1. Read this book in my Literature and Ecology class with professor Moore. It was a good read, and by far my favorite book from the class. McPhee has a great ability to construct a narrative. He makes his points about the environment cleverly; he seems to be an impartial observer while it is the other characters that speak vehemently about one position or the other. This works especially well in a piece of nonfiction that requires us to question seriously our own relationship with nature. In short, this is literature, a seemingly rare quality for books pertaining to man and his environment.

  2. I was not a fan of this book when we read it in my Literature and Ecology class but I would recommend it to someone who likes nature and enjoys every aspect of it.
